Umbria Food&Wine: Holiday in Assisi, typical products and routes of taste in Umbria

Delicious Itineraries - Assisi and surroundings

To learn more about Assisi we’ve decided to complete our journey by offering you a tour of "taste" typical products and dishes of our region are particularly popular and well known throughout Italy. Restaurants and taverns offer a wide range of traditional Umbrian dishes such as the famous "torta al testo" with ham, homemade pasta, chicken “all’arrabbiata” (spicy).
The taste of these dishes is exalted if you try them with fine wines like Trebbiano, Sangiovese or Grechetto, which obtained the specific Assisi DOC denomination in 1997. Among the medieval villages of Umbria, Spello and Trevi are really worth visiting. If the mills are open do not forget to taste the delicious “bruschetta” topped with extra virgin olive oil from our hills. A few km from Assisi, between Montefalco and Bevagna, amid beautiful hills covered with vineyards and olive trees, runs the Strada del Sagrantino. The wine cellars are open all year offering many events that allow you to taste excellent wines and other delicacies. In the splendid natural setting of Valnerina, in the Nera River Park which is home to the Marmore Falls, the taste takes on the scent of black truffles, Norcia ham and cheese, the color of Castelluccio lentils and  Cascia saffron. Do not forget to visit Cannara, at about 10 Km from Assisi, known for the cultivation of the tasty onion. In September, during the “Onion Feast”, Cannara is full of food stalls offering a delicious and unusual menu in which onion is the main ingredient.
